Looks like she may have about $14k balance, but she got a bad check, maybe from a scammer. I know BofA does -888,888.88 for accounts suspected of fraud. But if she was able to pull $20 out the account isn't locked for fraud.

That isn't far off. Every time I overdraft my checking, for one day, often for just a few dollars, my bank sends at least 2 letters for what amounts to pennies of interest but nearly a dollar of postage.
