FWIW, blowback action guns require a firm grip for complete cyclic action. A limp wrist will cause a slide to fail a full retraction, enabling the bolt to strip a round without completing the cocking of the hammer. I don’t know what gun that was, but it can and does happen.

Looks like he lost, at least, a chunk of his right middle finger.
That would most definitely compromise grip and thus round cycling.
