In addition to centralizing transportation and making it easier to shut down people's ability to travel on a whim, the Light Rail system that was started in Portland decades ago did nothing but deliver inner-city crime and trash out to the once-pleasant suburbs on the west side of the city. They were already in decline but the light raim stations in Beaverton/Hillsboro/Tualatin accelerated the process greatly.
