There is a building at Fort Detrick, MD that has had all of the windows and doors bricked up and is "off limits" for 100 years since 1960's. Also, a bunker underground at Point Loma, CA (San Diego bay), that dates back to WW2 and is permanently sealed with reinforced concrete including the air vents to the surface due to contamination from nerve gas leaks in the 1950's.
Nerve gas...friend who regularly goes to Dugway Proving Grounds says that there's so much chemical nerve agent in the soil that you need to be really careful about dust.
Same comments from one of our VFW guys who was an MP at both Dugway and some other place in Utah where he was an MP in the 1970's. Said that everyone was required to carry atropine styrettes and a complete kit of gas mask and a gas resistant overall suit with rubber boots. He also said that "leaks happened all the time, especially the mustard gas from World War One."
Amazing how that stuff hangs around. They don't need to carry anything with them now, just "be aware of..."
