One major thing to remember is in the 1940s the Germans created rocket technology and after the war, NAZI scientists went on to build spacecraft and lead NASA to space in Operation Paperclip and recruited them for all blueprints and engineering as well as creating high speed, stealth, new age planes.

Those are the UFOs all of the people were mystified by random civilians who in the 1940s had no clue of how much the Germans had created and fake news didn't say anything since the 65 year long cold war had begun against the communists.
