I believe his intended point is that since it has navigation lights it's clearly following FAA regulations. Therefore terrestrial. But those are not FAA navigation lights. Which sweeps his legs right out from under him.
And if you want to play the alien game, why wouldn't they have their own version of navigation lights?
Not to mention, clearly the propulsion is non-traditional; terrestrial or otherwise. Why would we make wild assumptions about luminous artifacts on a craft we don't know how it functions?
