Why not? Simple solution.

I think Elon wants to drag it out for increased/"elongated" Twitter activity.

As another commenter pointed out, THIS is why not:

"Because mainstream media is going to ignore it, they can handle ignoring a dump that comes all at once. Peoples attentions spans aren’t that good anyway, but it’s a lot more obvious when they ignore a slow drip that goes on for weeks as more people call for them to report on it."

There will be so many subject threads in a big dump, it will take months to report out on them. The waiting with selective gatekeeping (ie Twitter internal memos related to Hunter's laptop first, then govt ban requests & portals, then ...) drives me nuts, I'm sure I'm not alone. I also don't want impatience to impede impact.

Maybe some delay is designed to align the most important info releases with a new Congress that is more likely to initiate investigations. The Twitter DMs (and any other hidden comms) will be a goldmine of info behind every important event around the world over the past +/-10 years. There will be plenty to chew on. Probably not all can be revealed.

Of course he will, because that's what all good businessmen do. Also, if you actually want coverage forced upon the public, the encourage the drip method whenever possible. You'll find people who want it all released now want the story killed asap and for twitter to not prosper.

If you want the broadest possible audience, you keep the story alive for as long as possible. This is why they are actively pushing for a complete and singular dump. They want it gone from the news cycle.

Extending the drip will overlap with the new Congress which is more likely to initiate investigations, keeping it in the news cycle and stepping up the significance so it can't be ignored.
