No one "owns" Mastodong, it's an open source project that used to be a work-alike with Gnu Social / Pleroma / et al. Anyone can set up an instance that will or won't federate with the rest of the network. There are many Mastodon sites on the Internet.

Eugen is a fucking snowflake that has a blocklist others can subscribe to, and the devs that help maintain the mastodon project are well known for being commie clowns who don't give a fuck that your federated instance won't talk to theirs properly (Ii.e. I'm under no obligation to make sure my comments federate with your site.) In the early days, the original mastodon.social blocked a lot of sites, it was hard to have conversations across the network. It was for "reasons" according to him.

He nearly had a fucking shit fit heart attack when the furporn heavy Pixiv started an instance.

lol. It reminds me of this issue (gitlab.com) where an imageboard app for Android got an update to specifically block a couple chans like 8chan (you can see the quote yourself there). The app was open source (the code is open and free for anyone to modify) then of course someone decided to release a separate app WITHOUT the blocklist.

What happened then is even more :clown: the app store for open-source apps F-Droid officially blocked the unlocked app and stated they will not allow it to be hosted.

The hell on Earth will be man-made. (These) People cannot let go of control, not at all. I see it across many different communities and branches. They'll love totalitarism as long their double-think makes them believe they're the democratic bunch.

Fortunately, there are other DIY social networks. Pleroma doesn't have a universal blocklist, and most instances there are open unless it's illegal in the host country.
