I saw an article where people complained about anyone (or bots) being able to be verified for $8/month. They claim bots will use similar names to try to trick people. Like TeslaAIbot and TesIaAlbot. Looks the same when you use capital 'i' and lowercase 'l', so there will be confusion.
But bots will be reported/identified and have verification revoked quickly. So really, Elon just needs to have "verified for X days". If you see an account verified for 3y, you can assume it's legit. If you see an account verified for 3d, you can assume you need to be very suspicious.
If bots want to try to sit on accounts for years to build their time, they'll wind up spending hundreds of dollars for a single account that gets terminated immediately. And an account that's verified for 3y that has almost no history would be glaringly obvious anyway...
I'd send my suggestion to him, but my Twitter account is suspended for some reason...
