I don't even use gab, and I knew something weird was going on with it when people I know who had high follower counts on twitter before leaving, started talking about posts they made on gab. I think a lot of people were starting to migrate to gab, very recently no less, there was some trend formation going on in the background, and the regime saw the *beginnings* of the problem it posed if it snowballed.
