Did he really? Lol whoops
Yeah, he put out some books back in the Web 1.0 days talking about how the future would shape up. He said something along the lines that Cable services would never be able to provide a good bandwidth and that telcos would probably be the ones giving you service. The book in question is "The Dilbert Future" from 1997 (I believe.) Counterpoint, I worked for Ma Bell at the time and, even though it was my business to provide telco switching frames, it was obvious that Cable was going to be the way. You can get more data over coax than you could over any twisted pair from a SLAM.
Having worked for PacBell kind of addled his brain so you have to understand him. Ma Bell and her children demanded your soul and brain upon entry to The System, which of course, was The Solution.
Thanks for the backstory, I’m sure I knew and dismissed then forgot about the cartoon guy..
The argument against cable for internet was at that time is was pretty Much one way and telephone lines were two way.
At the time, it was thought BPL was going to be a serious contender. Then we got cable speeds higher than 10mbps.
