I guess all these government workers don't have to update their bosses weekly on what they did in their job. If they do provide status updates or have meetings for status updates, well then they are definitely avoiding this request maliciously without any valid reason to complain. Virtually all private sector employees have weekly status updates so these government drones should too. No excuses. No update, no job.

I provide a weekly status on my work to my direct boss, as well as status reports on every project or program I am managing.

Yep. Whenever I managed teams of people I knew enough about what my staff was doing to be able to give a high-level review to leadership. It's part of being a manager in the real world.
