Other states such as Colorado allow this. There are penalties and other ramifications if it is not justified. I don't recall seeing stories where people are just blasting bears left and right. Game wardens even supply complimentary rubber buck shot if you have a shotgun. The state is also required to pay for damages to property and livestock from bears etc... Seems like someone wrote a butt hurt article without any true understanding of the matter.
