Let's say Jeffrey Epstein was working for intelligence agencies and his job was procuring children for powerful people to use sexually allowing intelligence agencies to leverage the powerful people to do their bidding.

This is a classical psychological warfare tactic. Don't remember what is called. The trick is to get someone to hypothetically rationalize a softer position on a topic from which you would absolutely not budge. This has the effect of moving someone on a position slightly softer. It's the first crack of an egg on a slow march forward with other techniques to follow.

The pollster wants to do things to children.

The Overton Window.

It's a like minded concept but this is more narrow. It's not the overtone window. That works by simply moving the goalpost of permitted and authorized discussion. This tactic works by tricking the target into mentally shifting from absolute moralism to relative moralism, effectively changing how they think about the topic. It's extremely subversive.
