Maui looks a whole lot like this. There's a huge effort to take over Lahaina for the "noble" purposes of C40/15 minute cities. It's my contention the fires were started intentionally to force people out. After people lost everything, jews swept in offering to take the land off their hands for pennies on the dollar. If this isn't enough coercion, it looks like the Hawaiian government is prepared to coopt the land by force.
Now, what happened to private property rights? Add to this, the mayor of Chicongo is planning to start government operated grocery stores. Each event in isolation can be explained away but looking at these events together, I'm seeing a different picture.
I had family who used to live in Hawaii. Tell stories of extremely corrupt government. For example, they steal vehicles, illegally auction them off, and then give you storage fees while it was waiting for auction. He took them to court and won. He won only because they have left a paper trail through their own office confirming they knew it was illegal. Apparently they have been doing this for years and are still doing it.
Yes, you are correct. I spent some time in Lahaina, I heard plenty of stories about how the US stole Hawaii at gun point. Later, most of the so called government is left winged shills. After learning all of this, I have no interest in spending more time in that corrupt island.
