Two issues here:
The safe manufacturer has a backdoor that they used. This isn't acceptable for any safe intended to protect from theft. (It can be okay if you're only using say, a fire safe to protect important documents from fire.)
The FBI had a search warrant for the safe customer's house. They did not have a warrant for the safe manufacturer, nor did they have a subpoena or court order for the safe manufacturer. So the manufacturer willingly gave up customer information without a legal requirement to do so.
