Two issues here:

  1. The safe manufacturer has a backdoor that they used. This isn't acceptable for any safe intended to protect from theft. (It can be okay if you're only using say, a fire safe to protect important documents from fire.)

  2. The FBI had a search warrant for the safe customer's house. They did not have a warrant for the safe manufacturer, nor did they have a subpoena or court order for the safe manufacturer. So the manufacturer willingly gave up customer information without a legal requirement to do so.

I hear Liberty safes make great storage cabinets for Bud Light.

What's the point in buying a safe if the people who sell you the safe can give other people the code to the safe?

Exactly. It's a potemkin safe. It's fake! It's like buying a bucket with a hole in the bottom.

Kind of ironic Liberty Safe gives your code to the biggest criminals out there.

The three letter creeps have way$ of making people talk. Just ask Yahoo:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/sep/11/yahoo-nsa-lawsuit-documents-fine-user-data-refusal https://www.techdirt.com/2014/09/12/yahoo-threatened-with-secret-250000-per-day-fine-if-it-didnt-comply-with-nsa-prism-demands/

It probably wouldn't take that much of a daily fine to put "Liberty" Safe out of business.

They should never have had a backdoor to begin with. That avoids the legal issue for them altogether.

What a bunch of cucks. If the Feds show up with a search warrant, you tell them "good luck". Where are the codes? Well, they are welcome to "search" and if they cant find them they should have searched better.

Pretty good info on what cars 3-letter-agencies ride around in.

I guess since the Afroman incident LEOs have updated their procedures to turn off the victims security cameras.

That's why you need an old school non-digital lock...

My gun safe has a digital lock as well as a key. Sadly, I keep forgetting to put batteries in the lock compartment. Silly me.
