I'm gonna disagree with you there.
When I was in 7th or 8th grade we had "Family Living" class, in which we discussed reproduction and birth control (condoms, abstinence, The Pill, etc.) in a clinical, matter-of-fact manner. The gist of the class was that sex causes babies because sex is designed to cause babies. If you're not ready to be a parent you should abstain from sex. If you're going to take that risk you should do your best to mitigate it, but you would be better off abstaining.
In order to attend the class you had to have a permission slip signed by your parents. That permission slip included the entire subject matter list that would be discussed so parents knew what they were agreeing to.
Some people must be deaf or stupid then.
Perhaps a bit of both. The problem comes about when parents are excluded in the decision-making process.
They were, and I got education back in the stone age of the 80s. People just don't give a fuck, and would rather kill another human than live with the consequences of their actions.
