I'm not saying the guys aren't better trained. I'm saying that they shouldn't be running against girls, regardless of how well the girls run.

That could be but I am not sure it is the case. I have know many female athletes that take their sport very seriously. I think that women's sports are less popular because they are less exciting to watch and I think that they are less exciting because the athletes are innately less physically adept than their male counterparts.
This entire trans sport situation has demonstrated that a mediocre male athlete can beat a best-in-the-world female athlete. Women's sports are not fun to watch because half of the audience (males) says to them selves "I could do that." Almost all entertainment is enjoyable because the observer imagines themselves as the lead character/athlete and people enjoy vicariously imagining themselves doing wondrous things. This disappears if half of the audience thinks that the acts are not that wondrous.
