They totally cannot comprehend this. I have told my wife that if SHTF and we find ourselves in a no win situation that I hope to survive longer than she does so I can bury her with dignity with my own two hands. She didn't understand why I would have that kind of thoughts. I told her it's a man thing and that she won't understand it. If that ever comes to pass, I hope I'm lucky enough to have a pack of smokes with me to give me calm in my final moments left on Earth.

I'm thinking of Gladiator. Maximus is enslaved, struggles through hardship for many years, dies in battle at the end. Yet, that's the good ending.

I volunteer as a firefighter. The most ideal expression of what I do is to rush into a burning building to save a life. It is at the core of my training, And at the core of my heart.

I'll run inside and save your ass regardless of who you vote for, even at the risk of serious injury or death. That is a selfless act IMO.

Try to explain the sacrifice of Torpedo 8 at Midway. The Alamo. So many others. Most contemporary people won't get it.

Men have been awarded Medals of Honor for doing this exact thing. I can't run these days so yes, I would absolutely do this so my loved ones could escape.

The fact she either mocks or cannot comprehend men thinking about this speaks volumes about her character and the character of the men in her life.
