Yep, no diamonds ever. Ruby, sapphire, emerald or alexandrite all the way. If she wants a clear stone she can get moissanite, which is superior to diamond in every way.

I never understood why people would spend that much on a diamond. They're cool and pretty, but despite the cool prism like effect they don't look unique. I received a bunch of loose sapphires and gems from a relative that I would like to make jewelry out of one day that are a bunch of unique shapes and colors. Go to the right spot and sapphires are actually very affordable, you can buy some of those stones for like 7-20$

This is true enough, the price of diamonds are strictly controlled. They are really a dime a dozen.
