Neither physique is sustainable for health and utility. Soldier/Fireman/Functional fitness enables a man to ruck, run or row as far as necessary, hoist his own body weight and gear up and over a wall and still have the savage reserves to kick ass into his advanced years.

Me too. I was a powerlifter back the and still now and among the fittest members of the brigade. My BMI put me in obese category while I was completely fit with low body fat. Most people doing just the military prescribed training had no chance to keep up with me during field training and forced marches. I still maintain that fitness level, but can lift more of course.
