I would argue that most information should flow freely but people should not. Likewise any new animals and plants should be thoroughly vetted before entry or you'll have more pythons and pigs running around tearing shit up. This allows us to benefit from new ideas, recipes and what have you but we can keep the actual people over there.
Or to put it more bluntly; keep the best, ditch the rest.
