I've tried to help homeless folks before, many times, with a 100% failure rate. There are so many social services now all it takes is a few remaining brain cells and the will to rise up from the bottom. It's mostly a waste of time, but some simple human interaction can help in the very short term. So many lost people never have normal social exchanges because they've become impulsive drug addicted ghouls. In the end it's like feeding wildlife, you just support a dependent population that won't or can't learn anymore
If you're homeless, it means you have no friends and no family that still tolerates you. In most cases, this means you have burned all those bridges, usually through your own actions.
I'm not saying there are no exceptions, but if you are chronically homeless, you're probably not suited to life in civilization.
