there are two sides of the road
one side, let's call it the left assume you own nothing and survive day by day by just doing what you are told
the other side, let's called right, assume you can be "self sufficient"
none of the two will work, for obvious reasons
so, the most important thing are the people you have around you, what they want, how they think (logical/emotional/can follow instructions...)
then, you try to stay in the middle of the road, maybe going a bit more on the right from time to time
