I decided the Christianity to which most people subscribed wasn't all that spiritual, but more of a societal structuring and control system based on fear and guilt at around age 12 or 13.
I would say the fear of going to hell is the biggest lever of social control in Christianity. It's interrelated to guilt of sin. The sin born into you can only be alleviated by desperately modeling your behavior to someone elses' interpretation of a heavily edited manuscript, because 95% of people are genetically too stupid, eager to conform, and uninquisitive to interpret it themselves. The only way to earn forgiveness is to admit when you don't conform to the authority and beg them for forgiveness in a "confession". What a great way to monitor your population and control them! Good luck forming a revolution inside of a society programmed from birth to snitch!
I'm fine with Christianity, and believe it's a good way to avoid depravity and degeneracy in your society, but you obviously can't let it be controlled by people who want you dead!
There's a strong argument that jews weaponized Christianity and used it to divide the Roman Empire, which eventually led to its failure.
