Same overlords then as there is now. Consooomerism was just starting to become a (((big))) thing when this movie was made. They had to create the consumer class before they could destroy it.

Our society as a whole is dependent on our economy which is built around profits, stock prices, and uneven distribution.

The economy’s job is to work for people. It is not the job of people to sacrifice themselves on the altar of the economy.

The flaw is the very idea that there's this separate "economy" that government can mold. In reality it's just the sum of people making individual transactions that benefit each party. To improve the "economy" you make it easier for people to do these transactions, and don't steal from them every time they make one.

You missed the biggest one of all: growth. Our economy is unsustainably built on a growth that will consume us. It’s why we are bussing in illegals, it’s why we are ignoring our environment.
