It is a sad truth. It took me a long time to realize that my military service while of great benefit to my character was not to the benefit of my country. Every war in the last hundred plus years has been either something we shouldn't have meddled with or was us being on the wrong side. WWII was the worst, if we had joined the right side of that war we wouldn't have had any of the wars we have been involved in since.
I still support veteran organizations though, like me most people who joined the military were young and just not really aware of some of the darker truths. More millennials like me should join those organizations, otherwise the boomers and gen xers will continue to gaslight younger generations on things like israel being our greatest ally (lulz) and how it is our duty to protect places like taiwan and ukraine. It sucks being a veteran and not having anyone who will be real with you on those things.
really the youngin's trusting the gov...
People are raised to confuse .gov authority with parental authority, god's authority ultimately
The gov is the parent in this world. The other ones are just birthing people or sperm donors.
While true, the generations that didn't grow up with the internet have far more trust in the news media. So boomers and gen xers may not trust the government as much as millennials but they do trust the news far more and that is in it's own way worse. I have yet to meet a boomer in real life that didn't form an opinion based entirely off of what they were told was true on the news. Like clockwork, whoever the news says is the enemy of the US is who they will think is the worst thing in the world at that time.
Pre Obama it was illegal to lie in the news, the older generations grew up with factual news agencies and political slants were not tolerated.. With Obama's "gov propaganda is encuraged" EO (which is the biggest clue the Trump was not on our side becuase he didn't reverse it), the news was deemed entertainment and they could lie through thier teeth to us. They were and are paid handsomely for positively mentioning talking points in media, whether it is social or broadcast and the older generation has a hard time recognizing the fundamental change that has happened.
gen xers will continue to gaslight younger generations on things like israel being our greatest ally
