Interesting phraseology, don't you think? Why phrase it like that? He's God, right? He could have said anything he wanted.
For instance, he could have said, "I am the one true God. There are no other gods." Pretty definitive, right? But he didn't.
He could have said, "I am the Lord, thy God, There are no other Gods." But he didn't.
He could have said, "I am the Lord, thy God, thou shalt worship no other Gods." But, yet again, he didn't.
Nope, he said, "I am the Lord thy God. You shall have no other gods before me."
Which is as much as an admission from Yahweh that there ARE other gods, and you are not constrained by the commandment from worshipping them, but only so long as you have worship him first.
