Depends on for what purpose. Right tool for the job and all. If your job is to commute to the office every day and it's less than 250 miles round trip, an EV is far more economical than a gas car. If you want to be able to drive your car when SHTF, an EV is going to offer you more options than a gas car.

If you need to tow a large payload, then an EV is shit.

I would argue it's the other way around. Unless you have solar panels and a home battery (which suck in their own right, given the cost, the logistics of cleaning them to keep them working optimally, and the fact that they degrade fairly quickly) you're not going to be charging your EV if SHTF.

Meanwhile an ICE can be converted to run on fuel which can be distilled in a small home setup or even on wood gas.

  1. Like everything, you can buy crap and you can buy good stuff when it comes to solar. After 25 years good panels will be producing >90% of what they produced on day 1.

  2. I will be charging my EV if SHTF and I don't have solar panels. There are a million more ways to generate electricity than their are ways to generate gas.

You can fill up an EV from a Diesel generator, wind power, hydro power, gasoline generator, solar power, and from batteries. You can't do that with gas.
