Silver is cheaper, it can be fashioned into utensils and jewelry, it's a better conductor of electricity, and almost as good a conductor of heat, it's less dense.

Gold is limited to 14kt jewelry realistically anything above that is too soft and ablation becomes a serious issue, even cleaning gold jewelry can wear it away as gold dust.

You can't use it as utensils, its heat conductivity is only marginally better, and the resitance to tarnishing is countered by its softness.

Now that is just silly.

I'm being serious. If you were in a situation (and I know the likelihood of this is near zero) where you had to flee home with whatever possessions and rations you could carry. You are not looking to carry any extra weight.
