We're back to the arbitrary size thing again. It's not unexpected that if you set up 4.25 billion matches between two people, and then set up 2.125 billion matches between the winners, and so on until there is one winner left it would take 33 matches. That's literally what 233 means. It's like saying it's surprising that if you had 5 apples and added 5 more you'd have 10.

Yes, it’s obvious to everyone that 233 is a really big number. With a tiny amount of effort, they can even figure out what that number is. That has nothing to do with the contextual idea that 33 rounds of a tournament is enough to play through the entire population of earth. That is not something that has entered most people’s consideration.
