Ah, but the joke is, when you do retire you realize that you were happier while you were working.

This is pretty much every member of Gen X and the 3/4ths of the Boomers (the ones that were born after 1950). They just barely missed that gravy train. The Silent Generation and the first 5 years of the Boomers really got to dig deep into the slops trough though. To the point that the most powerful positions in the federal government are still occupied by Silent Generation members, such as Pelosi, McConnell, Schumer, Durbin, and Biden. In Biden's cabinet, of the 15 Executive positions, eight of them (more than half) are occupied by Yellen, Lloyd Austin, Merrick Garland, Vilsack, Becerra, Marcia Fudge, Granholm, Mayorkas, all of whom are members of the Silent Generation.

They still run the world, and they are the ones who enjoyed the fruits of peace and prosperity, became the wealthiest generation of all time, then decided that they'd pull that ladder up after them and subject the rest of the world, for all time, to war and poverty and disease, because they were living in a near-Utopia and they had fucked-up ideas and philosophies that led them to believe that they were civilization's pinnacle, therefore they would lead the world into actual Utopia with their theories about Socialism and Sexuality and Social Mores.

And the rest of course is a history you can actually experience by watching footage actually taken at the time and by reading articles written at the time. You can actually see the Silent Generation strangling America in its crib just by watching videos and reading a little.
