I was forced to read that shit too. Turns out blacks who descended from slaves from the north were actually quite well integrated in the late 1800's, early 1900's. They acted white, their kids went to school with whites and their families produced doctors and lawyers. Whites treated them better than they did the Irish and treated them the way modern whites treat Asians, Indians and other non violent minorities. Nobody wanted segregation in the north until they received a massive influx of southern blacks during the 1920's and onward looking for economic opportunity in the rapidly industrializing north. The southern Blacks, who were 90% of the Negro population at the time, were far more violent than their northern counterparts, committed more crime, lacked class, etiquette, spoke vulgarly in public and disgusted Northern Whites in general that they did everything they could to separate themselves. There was a study at the time in Philadelphia that showed that blacks who came from south were 5 times more likely to commit homicide than a negro who originated from the north. Turns out, if you act like savages, civilized people won't want to live near you.
