American culture completely stagnated at the turn of the century/millennium. Everything is formulaic, regurgitated, soulless, tripe played on repeat. Movies are remakes, rehashes, recasts (racially). Music is mostly sound machines and voice-boxes. Clothes/hair haven't changed much. Think about how much they all changed from decade to decade in the 20th century. So it goes.

Yes, everything is formulaic because it has been boiled down "scientifically". Studies after studies have been done to honed and learn how to maximize profit and make pop music evermore popular.

Clothes have changed quite a bit. It went from baggy pants to tight metrosexual, to americana/monochrone, to 80's retro. In term of style what you see has not changing much are the result of the implosion of the cultural homogeneity. You don't have a cultural block anymore so instead of one massive cultural shift moving everyone, you have hundred of subcultures moving in their own directions, only vaguely being nudge by the cultural mainstream.
