It makes a huge difference. The average 18-wheeler is shaped like a brick. The faster you push it through the air, the more energy it takes to push it. The biggest difference will be noticed at high speeds on the highway.

yeah I was just thinking it does add some weight and drag though, but the fluid dynamics must check out

My new 1/2 ton truck has an actuated lower air dam. Supposedly improves fuel milage by 2%.
