I have an interview with TravelCenters of America on monday (IT support role for corp), as a trucker what's your thoughts about them?
Don't have much of an opinion about them because my company uses Pilot/Flying J for fuel.
The positives are they tend to have a variety when it comes to restaurants from one store to the next. Downsides are they have definitely jumped on the paid parking bandwagon to the extreme. If I spend hundreds of dollars with you for fuel, I'll be damned if I spend another dime with you if you're going to charge me to park. It doesn't matter if it was my money spent on fuel. It's the principal.
Loves and mom and pops truck stops manage to get by just fine without charging to park. I'd even be okay with showing you a receipt to wave parking fees but very few stops are set up that way. Again, even though my company uses pilot for fuel, I tend to park and spend money at mom and pops or Loves for this reason.
I know this has little to do with the position you're applying for but I can't really add anything to that end of things.
No, your comment gives me a good feel for the company in general from you, their target customer. I appreciate the response. I've worked at a lot of organizations that just don't seem to get it and focus solely on profits (shekels?). This gives me a sense they may be missing the point of why they exist which is potentially a bad sign.
I honestly wouldn't go as far as to say they're missing the point. They're just tailoring their company to accommodate travelers/vacationers. I get it. They spend more money.
But these big chain "travel centers" are still trying to act like truck stops in the off seasons to keep money flowing. Again, I get it. I'm just saying it's obvious what they're doing to any driver that isn't absolutely retarded. So I choose to spend my money elsewhere. Where I'm "wanted" without trying to sound too much like a fucking queen.
