Skyrocketing Minimum Insurance Requirement for Motor Carriers

Automatic Emergency Braking On New Trucks

The emergency braking doesn't help at all. It just makes the truck slam on brakes for stupid reasons like a low bridge or a car exiting in the lane beside you.

Dig Into Driver Detention Times This would require officials to begin collecting data on how long drivers are detained at shippers and receivers, and to create a rule within a year to establish limits on the amount of time that a driver may be reasonably detained, unless compensated for the time.

This is already a thing. I'm honestly not sure what the fuck they're going on about with this. This just shows how ignorant they are of the subject. For example, I get paid $25/hr for every hour I'm waiting after the first 2 hours. The 2 hour rule is pretty standard throughout the industry.

Establish “Broker Guidance” The bill would appear to address recent complaints about freight brokers by ordering the DOT to issue guidance to clarify the definitions and roles of brokers and bona fide agents and requiring the Secretary to consider the impact of technology and the role of dispatch services in the freight transportation industry.

This is just word salad that is just using buzz words to attack brokers "because drivers hate them, right guys?!" Brokers do suck a lot of the time but this doesn't even make sense.

This provision would direct the FMCSA to create a ‘‘Women of Trucking Advisory Board’’ to encourage organizations and programs that provide education, training, mentorship, or outreach to women in the trucking industry; and recruit women into the trucking industry.

Oh thank God. As if women haven't been forced into enough careers, let's put them behind the wheel of an 80,000lb combination vehicle.

Other provisions of note for trucking included in the bill include a possible underride guard mandate, the return of CSA scores to public view, the limiting of personal conveyance, and increased funding for highway construction.

So a money grab that, once again, the cost will be passed to you; the consumer.

I haven't but I've met my share of women drivers. One that sticks out to me was backing her trailer into a dock next to mine. It was already a very tight spot and I noticed she was setting up to blindside her trailer in. I was thinking there is no fucking way. I had one hand on the horn and the other on the radio, waiting on her to take my hood off.

She put that trailer in with zero pull ups and didn't get out to look once. It ended up being (if I had to guess) a 60-70 year old woman solo driver. She had all of my respect because i wouldn't have even tried what she pulled off flawlessly.
