I'm a working professional and have a good career, but seeing how in demand truckers are I've considered getting a CDL license if for no other reason just to have. Is it worth it? Is it hard to get? Any tips from the pros?

Yes. Totally worth it.
No. Not worth it if youre not really considering driving full time.

If you're not going to use it I'd avoid getting one. You'd need to re-certify regularly and that can be a pain in the ass. Long-haul trucking isn't the only option for a CDL driver. UPS is always looking, as are other regional or short-haul companies.

Good to know, thanks!

Take a look in your area for short-haul trucking. Home Depot, Lowes, places like that often require a CDL too, but I don't know how well they pay.

A CDL license does not a driver make. It will take 3-5yrs of experience to earn decent wages. Most wash out in the first year or two and default on the school loans further adding to the shit work history they have always had. The last 25yrs has severely diluted a once noble career. Seldom do you see white americans behind the wheel these days. Obamas imports have taken over. Old drivers like myself are getting out before the boat sinks completely. Go be a stripper,it pays better

Sorry to hear that, thanks for the insight.

Stay clear of the stunt drivers in 18 wheelers.

I have a Class B with tank/air brakes/hazmat that I need for wildland firefighting, and I'm working towards my Class A. My employer is helping me with training. Gaining skills and credentials is always worth it IMO, especially for something so essential, and double especially if you can train on the clock.

In some states you may need a Medical Examiners Certificate and I'm not sure what that entails now. Just something to be aware of

I don't know about your AO but here you can get a Class E drivers license. (Also called a Chauffeur License).

Here it let's you drive company cars and some larger vehicles like box trucks up to 26' long w/o air brakes that are 16,000# (or something like that) and under commercially. It's not really the same but it can give you a real taste of what it's like . The investment is usually way less. Here it was just a written test with NO driving portion plus a fee.
