The only reason people believe women were looked down upon is because of the endless array of Jewish propaganda telling people women were treated poorly. Women were treated exceptionally well.
Society had many rules for men and women. Society was not kind to anyone who stepped outside of their societal roles. It wasn't just women who were held in check. But Jews tell everyone otherwise.
