Glyphosate..

According to a study released in late 2015, an Argentinian research lab reportedly found glyphosate in eighty-five percent of the tampons, and other cotton sanitary products that were tested.

Additional pesticides found in tampons include:

Malaoxon & Malathion Dichlofluanid Mecarbam Procymidone Methidathion Fensulfothion Pyrethrum Piperonyl Butoxide

I knew all of those except the tampons. Goddamn. My kids are unvaccinated and we eat as clean as we can and try to grow as much of our own food as possible or buy it from friends with livestock etc. I'll add tampons to the list of things to not blindly trust.

And pads (and diapers), too.

How does making 100% cotton pads solve this:

>found glyphosate in eighty-five percent of the tampons, and other cotton sanitary products

I suspect the contamination happens during the farming, not during the manufacturing.

Because even when it's "cotton," that's only one layer. Beneath there are other layers with other chemicals. I am not speaking for all companies or lines, I am sure there are some out there that make sure to not have chemicals in them.

A cursory look and I found this chart offering info on each layer if you're so inclined to read.

Edited to add that you have the choice to find organic cotton that may still have small amounts of glyphosate, however it will still be a better alternative than the chemical cocktails that most sanitary pads offer.

As with everything these days, the contamination is great and all we can do is seek to minimize exposure.

glad i dont use tampons. used pads though. pregnant now! hoping to be moving onto a homestead soon

Congrats!!

thank you! im really excited! im nervous about going to a hopsital to give birth though. im considered "high risk" because ive only gone to get checked up on twice, only once with an ultra sound.

"your baby is positioned well and you and the baby seem to be in perfect health. unfortunately youre considered high risk and will have to give birth at a hospital that will accept high risk births."

im a bit worried they will force a C section and other weird shit on me thats unnecessary. if my husband isnt allowed to be in the hospital with me i will leave and give birth in the car

Why are you high risk? Because you didn't pay the doctors enough to check your pregnancy?

My third kid, they didn't even see me until I was six months. Never any ultrasound until then, and it was to determine sex. If I have any more I will not have any ultrasound and I won't be going to the hospital. It's a racket that puts everything at risk.

Find a great midwife instead.

Yikes. Seems like silicon cups might be a safe bet.

ive heard good reviews from the ladies that have used them

They can be a bit tricky at first, but I have used them and had luck with them. So many different sizes and brands to choose from now.
