Britain has enough shale oil to only harvest 10-20% of it and meet all their energy needs for the next 80 years. Worst case that's 400 years of energy supplies, more than enough time to get fusion working. The only way we'll be reaching "peak oil" is if they force production to halt, which is still a possibility if they want to create famine.

I think they are forcing a production halt as we speak. Fertilizer and deiseal is through the roof so some farmer's are not planting in the US.
