Let's revisit this thread by Thatguy, "The power goes out all of the sudden(you paid the bill), and your cell has no signal. No power means no TV or radio, but its obvious that the power is out all over town. Your wife and kids are freaking out and your neighbors(who you never talk to) are knocking on the door, requesting your assistence.. what do you do?

lets start similar conversations like these. run scenerios, and develop plans of actions that everyone can practically adapt"

First thing is first. Locate and arrange all your water containers in a viable format (that you won't have to carry and move them around or risk contamination).

Grab a bath bob (plastic liner for emergency filling and water storage) and place it in your bath filling any tubs you have. The 100 gallons or so will last for washing, drinking and cooking. Some municipal water is loaded with chemicals and so you choose what to use it for however you will always need more water than you estimate for use. Events will always occur unpredictably that will necessitate using more resources than imaginable. It's best to plan for those, without disrupting supply or store and give yourself ample opportunity to change plans or initiate a lockdown protocol. These kinds of unexpected emergency emergencies can be listed and discussed later. An illness of any kind is one of them.

Any other water containers, any at all you can find or use, will be filled at this time. The water supply will begin to run out and after a day or two the purification facilities will have stopped working long enough to begin to send contaminated water through the system. Toilets will begin to back up after a couple weeks, as all the gasses produced literally blow the shit of the nation back into the houses that it came from. Some working models of toilet pluggers have been used, sometimes sticking an old into the bowl opening is all people can do. Disconnecting where the first pipe enters the house is most efficient but you need a sewer key for that (can't remember the terms).

After that, you'll have to begin working on food storage. You have to dry or keep meat cold enough, long enough, to cook it and store it long term. Everything else will have to go or be kept cool enough long enough to eat or finish. A cooler and ice will work for the short term but soon ice and all things like it would be gone.

If people are at the door, the usual and obvious thing is to not answer. If they are your neighbors and you want to help, you have to decide whether it's going to be you, your loved one(s), them, or both of you that die, based on everything you can project from what you have stored, what you know about them, and the world situation. In almost all situations, the only new thing that can happen for sure, is that both of you die, faster. If there is a situation where you can be helped by another, that is for you to determine and trust.

It may be preferable to inform them of the severity of the situation and send them on their way with a useful tool or another, telling them that they're on their own and this is not going away soon. Even that, may open up a security risk which will end with you dead and or losing all of your supplies. Everyone will become the enemy. No one will know who to trust, and unless you were on the preppers show getting called an idiot, you will be short on food and you will be short on supplies, medicines, necessities. There will be millions of people in a similar situation, and the majority of them will be armed before or after the break.

This continues, but let's stay within the lines of the initial post for now.
