So in the event of a breakdown, it goes without saying, that more than likely, you will not be going in to work. Even in the event of a total economical collapse, you will still need to trade and barter at some point. What tradable services and goods could you produce, that would help you get what you need, and then some?

black smithing, electrical repair, carpentry, soap making, sewing and towing services, mechanical, etc would all give you an avenue from which to acquire goods. What are your ideas?

I would think it would happen organically like one person in a neighbor hood has digital movies or music and the neighbor wants to use it and so they connect their networks via a cable or wifi. I could be dead wrong but that is how I would think that would happen.

Metalworking, particularly machining. There will be a huge need for particular hand made replacement parts for firearms, automobiles, and other mechanical apparatus that won't be readily available.
