yes, good point. the survivalist mindset dictates that you be strong enough to either say no or like you said, just dont answer..

Here's the thing; getting involved with unprepared individuals during a crisis can severely compromise you.

More so than anything, they aren't mentally prepared to adapt to that situation because the thought that they'd have to never crossed their mind.

Its not out of callousness: it's the same reason we can't solve poverty by simply bringing everyone to western countries
