I wouldn't want my parents speaking to my employer...they're at the IDGAF portion of life and HR would have to be involved and there'd be paperwork and all that.
I feel that the ONLY time that it is acceptable for your parent to talk to your employer is if you do not have a SO and you are extremely sick / got hit by a car or something and they are just telling them you won't be at work for a while.
I guess the only time I have had a parent talk to an employer was when I got a paper route, it was a requirement for my parent to be there because I was like 12 I think? I think it is insane that grown ass adults are bringing their parents to meetings/interviews.
Yes, having a family member report an emergency situation would be appropriate.
