I dig this
I had moved back to that small town in the Deep South to take care of my mother in her last days. Curtis the Vietnam vet that I had purchased marijuana from in my younger days had sadly passed from this realm. Asking through friends, I found another dealer in a small town about 15 miles away.
He was a very friendly fellow, with a lovely wife and two beautiful children, and over the course of a couple years, my family would go to his house for cookouts and other friendly gatherings.
I discovered he didn't have a “day job”. He made his living selling drugs, both soft and hard, and he also did pretty well playing poker on-line. He told me he played poker regularly with members of the local police force.
And he was very good at Three Card Monte. He could bend a corner of a card, and in the process of shifting the cards, he could straighten it, and bend the corner of a different card.
It was about this time that I found there were questions about the Holocaust. I had watched David Cole's movie, and I had dug deeper into the claims, and I realized something wasn't adding up.
So one night at his house, I brought up the questions I had found, in particular the “six million”. I spoke about the wooden door on the gas chamber, and the sample studies by Leuchter and Rudolf, and how the numbers on the monument at Auschwitz had changed from 4 million to 1.1 million but the official ”six million" total had not decreased. And I asked what he thought about it.
His response? He told me he and his wife had visited Auschwitz. On their honeymoon. The trip had been paid for by his grandparents.
On my next visit, he told me “politics” weren't to be discussed at his house.
Hi guys. I started this sub, Things That Shape, a couple of weeks ago, based on a blog I wrote some years ago. It's for interesting or odd or terrifying true stories that have made an impact on your life in some way.
We've all had our lives shaped by events. If you feel the lessons you've learned may be of interest to others, please share!
