Could you write a short horror story?
What's your pleasure?
I like the undead. Zombies, vampires, liches and ghosts are all cool spooky creatures.
So you like the undead.
Fearing the undead is only natural. It is actually one of humanity's oldest documented fears.
The first book ever written to survive to modern era was the epic of Gilgamesh. In it, the Goddess Ishtar threatened to wake the dead into life so that they could eat the living.
O gatekeeper open thy gate Open thy gate that I may enter If thou openest not the gate so that i cannot enter I will smash the gate down I will raise up the dead, eating the living So that the dead outnumber the living!
And that is quite scary.
Vampires are scary as well, and while most people associate them with Eastern European folklore, they are much more universal than one may think.
Usually perceived as a dead relative who has been given false life after death, the come in the night to drain your virality away, usually blood, but occasionally other vital fluids.
But I am not here to tell you about the undead.
And I am not here to tell you about the dead.
I am here to tell you about the unliving.
Because they are all around you, and you really can't notice it at first.
Did you know, that not everyone has an internal dialogue, or even an internal monologue?
Some people can even envision something in their minds eye.
People who claim to be sentient, and act sentient, but have all the self-awareness of a robot.
Now take a moment, and look all around, and see who is there.
The Unliving. The Ghosts that dress as men. The puppets that pretend to pull their own strings.
Why did you come here?
You could've gone to Facebook.
Or Reddit.
Or Instagram.
You could've been undead, or unliving.
Maybe you are.
But at least you aren't afraid, anymore.
