Can you think of any poet/artist/musician you sincerely respect who was not fucked up?

Billy Joel. As far as I can tell he just did his job, kept his politics to himself, failed at a few relationships, but managed to be a great musician, singer, and writer. I learned how to write love songs by listening to him.

e: He does reference doing coke in at least one song. So he was likely just another fucked up drugged out rocker at some point.
