I think that's what the torture aspect of human religions as always been about, be it the Aztecs flaying people alive, or the Semites cooking people in the Brazen Bull.
Something about the pain suffering appeases the Enemy of the Human Race.
Then to circle back around, I could see having an ill view of god to allow us to be so controlled by these enemies. Those enemies being his creations as well.
I definitely do not hate god or whatever force created the ability for things, which we are, to exist. That would change though if some power upon high made itself known that we were only created to act as cattle thats only purpose is to provide metaphysical sustenance for some entities in another parallel world. Even then, would it make any difference?
I can't wrap my head around any of it.
Catharism makes the most sense to me, but they got purged by a Pope.
Existence is a strange beast.
